Common Questions

Why wasn't anything blocked on my first day?

The day you set up Stop The Rot is a preview. You'll see your usage, but there are no warnings or blocks until the next day. This gives Screen Time a clean start at midnight.

I changed a setting. Why hasn't it taken effect?

Changes to your limits and to the apps and websites you've chosen apply from the next day, so a limit can't be loosened in a weak moment. Changes to Blocked Hours apply once the current blocked window has ended.

Can I extend my time once I've reached my limit?

No. Once your limit is reached, the apps and websites you picked stay blocked until midnight. This is by design. Emergency calls always work, whatever is blocked.

A website isn't being tracked or blocked.

Website tracking and blocking work reliably in Safari. Other browsers may not be covered. Some sites, like Reddit, are counted by iOS as their app even when you use them in Safari. If a site isn't being tracked, try choosing its app in the picker as well.

My usage looks out of date.

Screen Time can take a little while to report recent activity, especially for websites. It usually catches up within 15 to 30 minutes.

Stop The Rot says it doesn't have Screen Time access.

Open Settings, then Screen Time, then Apps With Screen Time Access, and turn on Stop The Rot.

I'm not getting warnings before the block.

Open Settings, then Notifications, then Stop The Rot, and check that Allow Notifications is on. Warnings don't appear on your first day, which is a preview.
